The Big Picture Party
The British Library, 96 Euston Road, St Pancras

Monday 27 October, 11am –5pm, Free, no booking required

Especially suitable for 3-11 year olds, but all the family is invited to participate

A magical free event uses picture books and illustrations to unlock families’ imaginations and creativity. Drop-in sessions and art workshops explore themes with special appeal to young visitors, such as exotic creatures, fantasy and friendship. Parents, grandparents and carers will discover an ideal environment for the enjoyment of books, family learning – and drawing.

Britain’s best-known children’s book illustrator, Quentin Blake, launches the party. A half term highlight, this all-day programme is planned to fill the British Library. A team of outstanding artists, including winners of the Booktrust Best New Illustrators Award, lead activities for families with children of all ages. Other inspiring ‘drawers’ show off their skills on the Library piazza, where the Celebrity Frame provides the event’s centrepiece and reveals some very big pictures.

The Big Picture Party is a collaboration between the Campaign for Drawing, Booktrust, the Campaign for Learning and The British Library.
