BEGINNERS GUIDE TO ORGANISING YOUR OWN COME DRAW WITH ME!
Come Draw with Me! is a great way to spend the morning, afternoon or evening drawing with friends. This guide will help you get started, provide ideas for drawing activities, and useful tips on materials.
Getting started
Set the date and time – Think about whether you want to hold it during the day or as an evening or weekend event. It may be best to avoid public holidays, and clashes with major sporting or social events.
Choose your venue – Selecting a venue depends on how many people you're planning to invite. A small gathering in your kitchen or ‘drawing room’ would be great. Alternatively you might want to hold your event outdoors in your garden or local park. If you plan to invite a larger group or your local community, you may need to hire a venue. Make sure to check that the venue has insurance and relevant licenses for food and drink.
Make a guest list. – Draw up a guest list and make sure that it corresponds with the capacity of your chosen venue.
Decide on the format of your event – Are you inviting friends to draw a still life, or a life model - or whatever inspires them? Check out the ‘Drawing Together’ page for lots of drawing ideas. Decide whether you are going to include refreshments as part of the event.
Send out the invitations – Give your guests plenty of notice of the date and time of your event.
Let us know what you are up to – When you have confirmed your event, please tell us your plans, so that we can let other people know about
your endeavours (not your details!) to inspire them to hold a Come Draw with Me! event of their own.
Enter the Come Draw With Me! Competition – We are encouraging all organisers of Come Draw with Me! events to select one piece that
has been created during the event, and submit it to the Come Draw with Me! facebook competition. The entries will be judged by a panel of practitioners. The winner will receive a bumper pack of art materials presented to them at the V&A Museum on 30 September as part of the Big Draw 2012 launch. Please see ComeDrawwithMe!facebook page for full details.
