'Drawing on Your Talents' at Tynemouth Station, Tyne & Wear
Organised by Friends of Tynemouth Station with Union Quay Artists Studio, Tyne
& Wear.
Tynemouth Station became a buzzing community arts venue for two days of
imaginitive workshops - from drawing with sand and charcoal to exploring
perspectives, mining images, flowers, fruit and veg. The resulting 133 metre
'Longest Drawing in the North East' and a giant mosaic of self-portraits have
been exhibited to popular acclaim in Newcastle and North Shields.

'The World's Longest Drawing' at The Bentall Centre, Kingston-upon-Thames,
Surrey
Organised by Faculty of Art, Design and Music, Kingston University.
3,600 visitors (shoppers, art students and school children) completed a
kilometre-long continuous drawing over four days, guaranteeing a place in the
2003 edition of the Guinness Book of World Records. The half-ton roll of paper
was subsequently shown at Kingston Museum, Stanley Picker Art Gallery and
Kingston Parish Church.

'Charcoal Pigeon Pie' at Swingfield Village Hall, nr. Folkestone, Kent
Organised by Not Just Manure
The village's first ever art event attracted participants from surrounding
villages who first cooked - and then drew with - their own willow charcoal: a
memorable and entertaining event which literally drew people together!

'The Big Draw' at The Walter Rothschild Zoological Museum, Tring
with Sue Heap from Walker Books
A successful children's book illustrator introduced family groups to rough
sketches for a new book about a partying mouse. Participants were invited to
suggest their own party guests with a descriptive rhyme and illustration.
Visual inspiration from the 4,000 animals on display encouraged an outpouring
of creativity across all generations.

'The Scribble Festival' at An Tuireann Arts Centre, Portree, Isle of Skye
A month-long programme of activities focused on drawing for the whole
community, and culminated in commemorative banner-making, a 'Mad Doodle'
competition and spectacular fire drawing.
Supported by Arts & Business, plus a Scottish Arts Council Innovative
Education Award.

'The Big Corri-Draw - Stories of Our Life' at the Salisbury District Hospital,
Avon
Organised by ArtCare and Salisbury Health Care NHS Trust.
Illustrating a randomly chosen letter of the alphabet, the hospital community
drew whatever was special or dearest to them - creating a collective story from
individual memories. Artists and art therapists used hospital trolleys full of
drawing materials to provide encouragement.

'Dream Homes' at Camden Arts Centre, London
Hand and computer drawings were explored and developed by family groups to
create individual virtual homes and a collective ideal cityscape.
|

|
|
'Drawing Fax Exchange' at the Ikon Gallery and Habitat, Birmingham
Drawing studios were created at the Ikon and Habitat with plenty of stimulus
from artists, free materials, posters, artists' books and a still life.
Visitors to both places were invited to fax their drawings back and forth and
to find new ways of seeing and talking - through drawing.

'Creating Courtroom Capers' at The Judge's Lodging, Presteigne, Powys
Visitors, school pupils and web browsers responded to an open invitation to
recreate the 1866 trial of William Morgan, duck thief, by repopulating the
museum's courtroom with a cast of 300 colourfully-drawn Victorians.

'Drawing on the Past' at the Museum of London
Workshops demonstrated materials and techniques used by Romans, Tudors and the
18th century. Experimenting with wax tablets, sand and clay, styli, quills,
reeds, silverpoint and conté in galleries of the appropriate period gave family
groups an insight into what it felt like to be an artist at different times.

'The Big Draw' at Le Cateau Primary School, Catterick Garrison, N. Yorkshire
The entire school community - pupils, parents, other adult friends, teaching
and non-teaching staff - embraced drawing as a focus for a full, structured day
of activity which produced a awealth of work from intensive observation, memory
and the imagination.
