An Explosion of Graphic Activity
11 October 2003
The Big Draw 2003 Launch in Liverpool was a grand celebration of the art of
drawing by people of all ages and abilities.
Children and parents, teenagers and amateur artists all participated. The
drawings were inspired by the treasures of the Lady Lever.
As well as working on small scale individual drawings, some young people made a
truly enormous drawing.
This was inspired by the largest picture in the gallery, Frederic Leighton's
magnificent celebration of the civilisation of Ancient Greece, 'The
Daphnephoria'.
Wirral schools were involved and there was close co-operation with The
Williamson Art Gallery, Birkenhead.
There was an explosion of graphic activity in the gallery which triggered a
series of similar exciting events throughout National Museums Liverpool.
