THE JOHN RUSKIN PRIZE

The Campaign for Drawing, in collaboration with the Guild of St George, announces a new art award: The John Ruskin Prize.

The prize will be awarded to the best wall mounted artwork on the theme A New Look at Nature, and is open to anyone over 18 working in painting, drawing, print-making or mixed media and resident or domiciled in the UK.

The Prize winner will receive £1000 and a specially commissioned pencil case. The winner’s artwork will be exhibited at Brantwood (John Ruskin’s Lake District home) and in the Millennium Gallery, Sheffield during the major autumn 2012 exhibition, Force of Nature: Picturing Ruskin’s Landscape.

Nine runners-up will be included in the exhibition of short-listed artists at Brantwood, and offered one night’s accommodation to attend the Private View, where the winner will be announced on 7 September.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF ENTRY

Please read these Terms & Conditions carefully; entrants acknowledge their acceptance by registering. Please keep a copy for your records.

1. The John Ruskin Prize is open to anyone over 18, resident or domiciled in the UK.

2. All work submitted must be available for inclusion in the Brantwood exhibition, 8 September to 14 October 2012.

3. Work should not exceed 1.75 metres in any direction and must be wall-mounted.

4. Submitted images should be sent as jpgs no bigger than 2MB. The jury will view them projected at a resolution of 1024 x 768px.

5. Entries must be recieved by 5pm on 1 June 2012.

6. Entry is £10 for one image, £15 for two and £20 for three (maximum of three images). You can either pay by cheque or online, and images can either be sent via email or on a CD by post.

7.Postal entries should be sent with a cheque/ postal order and a CD of images to The John Ruskin Prize, Campaign for Drawing, 7 Gentleman's Row, Enfield, EN2 6PT. (If you are paying online please make sure you do so prior to making a postal entry and include a copy of the receipt with your submission).

9. Applicants submitting via email and making an online payment must include a completed entry form and a copy of their receipt as attachments.

10. Applicants sending images via email but making a postal entry and payment must identify themselves in the email

11. The Selection Panel invited by the Campaign for Drawing will short-list 10 artists for the Prize and select work by them for the exhibition.

12. Short-listed artists will be responsible for framing, packing and transporting work to Brantwood, Coniston between 29 August and 4 September and their work must be for sale (25% commission on sales). They must collect unsold work by 28 October.

13. The Selection Panel’s decisions are final and binding; no correspondence can be entered into.

14. Once an entry form has been submitted, no refunds of entry fees, part or whole, will be offered.

15. Applicants will be notified of the outcome by email.

16. Unfortunately we cannot return postal applications.

DATA PROTECTION

The Campaign for Drawing will retain entrants’ personal data for use solely in conjunction with work of the Campaign for Drawing and will not be made available to other organisations. If work is short-listed, these details will be shared with The Brantwood Trust.

The names of the ten short-listed artists will be announced on the Campaign for Drawing website no later than 6 July 2012.
